For those of us that have unused digital cameras or laptops setting in the closet, let Skid Row Photography Club bring new life to them. For the month of November we’ll call for donated technology to be dropped off at one of our official drop off stations beginning with BOLT BARBERS in Gallery Row

Working Digital Cameras & Laptops dropped off in Historic Core’s
Bolt Barbers (Designated Drop off Station) 460 S. Spring St. 90013 – 213.232.4715

Skid Row Photography Club is comprised of mostly local Skid Row residents who are given the gift of a camera order to document and share the everyday experiences of people in this unique neighborhood. We need your assistance to donate digital cameras, unused Laptops and desk top computers  or any other unused technology you may have put up in the closet or garage such as printers, etc. Please donate to this worthy cause. The Skid Row Photography Club was created to provide this community a healthy artistic outlet designed to bring new possibilities of self-expression as well as personal development and growth. All are welcome to participate for this weekly activity as we explore.

Artist/Curator Claudia French of “Cotrutza Gallery” in Gallery Row 446 S. Main St. 90013; Memories From My Youth in Communist Romania After the coup of August 23, 1944, in which King Michael ordered the arrest of Romania’s pro-German dictator, Ion Antonescu, Soviet troops entered Bucharest and found an interim Romanian government ready to negotiate peace. From the armistice Joseph Stalin fashioned a legal framework for the Soviet Union’s political and economic domination of Romania; he secured this through the imposition of rule by the Communist Romanian Party (CRR). On March 5, 1945, a pro-Soviet government came to power and used the country’s political structure, trade unions, and educational system to make Romania completely subservient to the Soviet Union. A vital step was the dissolution of the major democratic parties in the summer of 1947, and the indictment and imprisonment of their elderly leaders, Iuliu Maniu and Constantin Bratianu, as “agents of Britain and the United States.” Both died in communist prisons, along with many of their associates. Their trial was followed by the enforced abdication of King Michael on December 30, 1947

Just about a year ago I laid in a hospital bed at USC County Hospital forty pounds thinner having died and come back several times as I am told, right out of an operation in a comatose state I regained consciousness to this tall blond angelic form that as time went bye I was able to realize I had not died and that it was my friend Lesley Taplin holding my hand looking down literally willing me back to life. I kept wondering what was it that had brought this worldly accomplished dignified woman to the bedside of a man that lives in skid row, what could it be? I couldn’t understand or see what she saw when she looked at me but if she could believe my life was valuable then I could begin to fight back and live, and though I had known her well for several years, that was the first time I really saw and truly came to know the inner beauty and unconditional Love of the late Lesley Taplin, may she rest in peace
